Trey Songz was arrested following a fight with a police officer at the AFC Championship game in Kansas City, Missouri on Sunday evening, according to TMZ.

Video of the incident made its way to social media but witnesses disputed the police account of what happened, saying the R&B singer was unfairly targeted by an overaggressive white cop.

TMZ reported that the Grammy-nominated singer, whose real name is Tremaine Neverson, was part of the nearly 17,000 fans that were in attendance at Arrowhead Stadium to watch the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Buffalo Bills in the final game before the Super Bowl.

Video of the incident starts midway through the fight and shows Neverson tussling with an officer in the stands of the stadium.

But a witness who spoke to TMZ said Neverson was responding to heckling fans when the fracas kicked off. Fans in the stadium were yelling at Neverson and he asked them to stop. That is when a witness says the officer came over and attacked Neverson, according to the witness.

In the video, you can hear fans screaming at the officer to stop, and eventually other officers come to break the two up and arrest Neverson.

TMZ later shared that Neverson had been arrested and charged with trespassing, resisting arrest and for assaulting an officer.

The first two charges are misdemeanors but the last is a felony. The news outlet added that he will most likely be released on Monday evening.

Jackson County Sheriff Darryl Forté told The Kansas City Star that Neverson was being held in Jackson County Detention Center.

“Off-duty sheriff’s deputies were first to arrive and assisted the Kansas City police officer,” Forté said.

The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the situation, according to local news outlet KMBC.
