Brimming with unequivocal verve and mind-shattering novelty that bends the parameters of musical genre, Little Rock-bred and Brooklyn-based singer, rapper and producer Rodney Chrome has dropped his new single “Break the Internet.”

Adhering to the tenets of his dazzling, maximalist approach to his artistry, “Break the Internet” is a high-octane combination of PC Music, R&B and hip-hop with an undeniably futuristic pulse that pushes us further into the distant future of contemporary music.

“With drill beats being such a staple right now in music, especially my current residence of New York, I wanted to give fans the chance to hear what drill music would sound like in the year 2099,” Chrome said in a statement. “Pulling inspiration from early 2000s bounce music, ‘Break the Internet’ was created to test myself to try and put as many genres (r&b, hip-hop, pop) underneath the umbrella of Drill music.”

With a sleek, ethereal accompanying video directed by forward-thinking writer and director Olivia De Camps, Chrome garners inspiration from Doja Cat’s live performance of “Say So” and the choreography of Sean Bankhead, who has formerly worked with the likes of Lil Uzi Vert and Cardi B.

Through his journey of self-discovery at the prestigious Clive Davis School of Music at New York University, Chrome introduced himself with the advent of his critically acclaimed first EP, Queer Pressure, in 2020. Since then, the genre-transcending talent has kept his momentum going strong with his presence in many fruitful spaces: being featured on AFROPUNK’s 2022 New York City lineup, spearheading the score for Brie Larson’s Disney+ show Growing Up and landing two songs and instrumentals on Oprah’s Hulu show Hair Tales

In 2022, he dropped another well-received project: Ghetto Popstar, Vol. 1which managed to amass over 150,000 streams across digital streaming platforms and generated over 55,000 organic views on its top music video, “To the Money.”

From writing his own music, choreographing performances and starring in his own videos, Chrome is a multifaceted force with zero signs of stopping anytime soon.
