New York Attorney General Letitia James is expected to announce a gubernatorial campaign, sources say according to Politico.

“Attorney General Letitia James has made a decision regarding the governor’s race,” James' adviser, Kimberly Peeler-Allen, said. “She will be announcing it in the coming days."

James, the state's first Black and first female attorney general, could make the announcement as early as Thursday. If she does launch a bid for governor, she'd be running against current New York Governor Kathy Hochul. 

Hochul replaced Andrew Cuomo earlier this year after the latter faced a wave of allegations of sexual misconduct. 

James has made quite a name for herself in her tenure as attorney general.

Last year, she filed a lawsuit to dissolve the National Rifle Association (NRA) for creating a "culture of self-dealing, mismanagement, and negligent oversight."

Over the summer, James ordered an ice cream shop owner who made false accusations against Black Lives Matter protesters to police to pay $500 to each of the 20 demonstrators he lied on. 

In between the aforementioned, the attorney general found herself holding the 45th president accountable on numerous occassions. 

Before taking office, she announced her intention to investigate former president Donald Trump and the probe remains ongoing. She also checked the 75-year-old when he didn't acknowledge her by name in a tweet. 

"It is very hard and expensive to live in New York," Trump ranted in a tweet from his now suspended account. "Governor Andrew Cuomo uses his Attorney General as a bludgeoning tool for his own purposes. They sue on everything, always in search of a crime. I even got sued on a Foundation which took Zero rent & expenses & gave away more money than it had."

After reminding the president of her duties, she signed off by saying, "P.S. My name is Letitia James. (You can call me Tish.)"

If elected, James would be the first Black woman to ever serve as governor in the U.S.
