Houston rapper Scarface is gunning for a spot on Houston’s city council.

The Geto Boys member, born Brad Jordan, announced his political aspirations on Monday via Instagram, according to The Associated Press.

“It’s official. I’m offering myself for service as the next Houston City Councilmember for District D,” he wrote. “Join our movement!”

If he wins, Scarface will replace Councilman Dwight Boykins, who filed paperwork stating his intention to run for mayor, reports The Houston Chronicle. The district is home to several hotspots including the Astrodome area, the Museum District and the University of Houston.

Face hinted at his plans on last Wednesday by asking his followers if he should run. He received affirmations from other rappers including 2Chainz, Slim Thug, Big Boi and Meek Mill.

His official announcement received similar reactions.

“I’m here for this!” wrote fellow Houston rapper Bun B. Paul Wall, another hometown hero, left three 100 emojis.

Boykins has not spoken out about Scarface’s intentions but he was instrumental in a proclamation declaring June 26, 2018 Brad “Scarface” Jordan Day, according to CW39. He said Face was an example of ‘It’s not where you start, but where you end up.'”

Houston mayor Sylvester Turner co-sponsored the proclamation and is fond of the “Smile” rapper.

"I’ve gotten to know this man not only as someone who has been blessed with many opportunities, has taken Houston and put us on an international map and then he’s transformed from one career to another where he is doing so much work in the community,” Turner said last year.

As a member of the Geto Boys, Scarface helped bring Houston’s unique hip-hop style to national audiences with hits like “Mind Playing Tricks On Me” and “Six Feet Deep.” Scarface’s announcement came a day after his group-mate Bushwick Bill lost his battle with pancreatic cancer.
