We were impressed by Aaron’s ability to find loopholes in the legal system so that he could obtain his law degree, pass the bar, and then have his admission transferred to New York. He kept us on our toes, especially when he tried his first case against corrupt District Attorney Glen Maskins. Season 1 had us rooting for Aaron, and his determination to restore the life that was stolen from him was a source of inspiration.

After being accused of a crime he did not commit and faced with mounting evidence, Aaron is offered a plea deal that would have gotten him 20 years. However, determined to uphold his innocence, he refuses the offer and is sentenced to life in prison. From here, the plot thickens!

Aaron spends his time buried in law books and works his way from the jail cell to the courtroom. In his first case as a defense attorney, he goes up against Glen Maskins (Boris McGiver), the very prosecutor responsible for putting him behind bars. We all were cheering when Aaron won this case and set a fellow wrongly accused man free. The prison warden, Safiya Masry (Indira Varma), turns out to be an ally for Aaron, but she is caught between him and her wife, who is running for District Attorney. Talk about drama!

Blood is thicker than prison walls.

When he is thrown in jail, Aaron is forced to leave behind Marie (Joy Bryant) and Jasmine (Tyla Harris), his wife and daughter, which left us all in tears. This separation thrusts Marie into single parenthood while she works towards her nursing degree. Jasmine grows up only knowing her father from a prison visitation room, which is where she announces that she is pregnant.

Although it remains a difficult situation to navigate, Marie and Jasmine support Aaron’s efforts for exoneration. After Jasmine’s pregnancy reveal, Aaron recommits himself to trying his own case and overturning his sentence, so he can return to his growing family. The moving scene left us feeling every gut-wrenching emotion.

Keeping us anxious, but hopeful, Aaron seeks justice for those incarcerated with him, case by case. After many ups and downs of the justice system, politics, jailhouse conflicts, and more, he finally finds himself in a position to re-try his case.

For Season 2, we’re excited to see the family man face new opportunities to fight for freedom for every inmate, including his friend Jamal Bishop (Dorian Missick).

Sadly, For Life is a case of art imitating life, as many inmates today are wrongfully imprisoned, but this amazing story of resilience and bravery gives people reason to remain hopeful for change.

Now the real fight begins, and we’re ready for the punches. It’s time for Aaron Wallace to live the life he worked so hard to regain. Ready to get into all the drama? Check out the Season 2 preview below!
