Several comedians have grown their fan bases into millions thanks to social media, which has helped them pivotal their careers on TV and the big screen. While many began their careers on YouTube and Instagram, others followed in the footsteps of previous comedians to become stars.

Joshua Neal, a Bay Area comedian, has nearly one million followers on TikTok, where his humorous and dramatic skits have had over 18 million views. In addition, the trained actor has acted in several short films and minor tv roles, including the short films, Fitting In and Before the Dark.

Quinta Brunson (@QuintaBrunson)

After getting her comedic start on her Instagram account shortly after dropping out of college, Quinta Brunson became an overnight sensation as a video producer for BuzzFeed. In the last six years, Brunson has appeared in 12 TV/Web series, including A Black Lady Sketch Show and Abbott Elementary, of which she is the creator and producer.

In 2022, Brunson was named one of TIME’s 100 influential people.

Zack Fox (@Zackfox)

Zack Fox is a comedian, rapper, and writer known for tweeting funny and relatable jokes under his old Twitter handle, @BootyMath. The 31-year-old accumulated over 419K followers and worked with the likes of rapper Thundercat, producer Kenny Beats and more. In addition, Fox has appeared in films, such as “Kuso” and has a recurring role as Tariq, the boyfriend of Brunson’s character in Abbott Elementary. Fox released his debut album, Shut The F**k Up Talking To Me, in 2021.

Comedian Anthony “Spice” Adams hasn’t always been known as the funny man he is today. The 41-year-old former football defensive tackle played for the San Francisco 49ers and the Chicago Bears before retiring in 2013 after nine seasons. By 2018, Adams had gained fans for his comedic skits and memes, earning him over 2 million followers on Instagram and almost 500k subscribers on his YouTube channel.

Lisa Beasley is a Chicago-based comedian known for her TV, theater, and stand-up comedy. However, she gained worldwide recognition after going viral with her impressions of Chicago’s Mayor Lori Lightfoot. With over 26K followers on TikTok, Beasley, known best as “Lory Litefoot,” uses her social media account to parody the Mayor whenever she trends and to bring awareness to several topics.

With almost six million followers on Instagram and over 300K followers on TikTok, 30-year-old social media influencer, comedian, and actor Vena Excell has solidified her name in the comedy world. Better known as “Pretty Vee,” the Miami comedian has worked with D.C. Youngfly, Lil Duval, Jesshilarious, and more.

With over 4.3 million Instagram followers, Druski has become the face of Gen-Z comedians at the age of 27. Druski rose to notoriety in 2017 after uploading humorous content on Instagram, attracting the attention of rappers such as Lil Yachty, Drake, Lil Durk, and Jack Harlow, who have featured him in music videos.

In 2021, he teamed up with Revolt TV and Adidas for his series, “Sneakin’ In With Druski.”

Ziwe, a first-generation Nigerian-American comedian, first got her start in the comedy world as an intern for Comedy Central, which pivoted her career to her own YouTube series, Baited with Ziwe, in 2017.

Ziwe announced during the pandemic that she was writing her first book, The Book of Ziwe, set for release in 2023.

The comedian has penned jokes for Stephen Colbert and is a former writer for the TV show, Desus and Mero. The 30-year-old stars in and executive produces her own Showtime series, Ziwe, which premiered last year. The show was renewed for a second season in June 2021.
